Venom (Marvel) Movie

We go to the movies very hopeful to see another Marvel series that may be interesting even though its not part of the Disney or Fox Universe. We have a anti Hero that started within the Spiderman series and moved along to become a stand alone character that Sony believes it can capitalize on. Here’s our take

Blindspotting

 This movie wasn't actually on my list to see, to talk about or to even mention.  But when we were hit with all of the critically acclaimed reviews as well as an Oakland story written and directed by African Americans and Hispanics.  I had to give it a go.  A very humorous, heartfelt drama that will hopefully make you think about the day to day struggles of anyone trying to remove stigmas from their identity.  ANd struggle to try to do the right thing in a very hard environment.  

 

 

Collin must make it through his final three days of probation for a chance at a new beginning in his Oakland, Calif., neighborhood. His bond with his volatile best friend soon gets tested when Collin sees a police officer shoot a suspect in the back during a chase through the streets. Things soon come to a head when the buddies attend a party at the upscale home of a young and wealthy tech entrepreneur

The internet (Hive Mind) / Buddy (Harlan & Alondra)

This week we get a little Neo-soul and a little west coast rap harmonizing music that Sean and I get into this week.  A break from the named performers as well as familiar sounds out today.  A really good mixture and somewhat contrasting but pretty good releases for this year.  Strictly west coast this week.  We test each others perspective on these two artist.

 

Travis Scott (Astroworld) and YG (Dangerous) 2018

We head out west and to Texas to review two new releases that go about their thing with contrasting styles.  YG with the hard core west coast street life with a different swag to it.  Then Travis Scott the producer extrondinaire giving us some reminiance of early Kanye productions.  We dive in to get a feel of the AstroWorld and Stay dangerous releases and what both artist bring to the hip hop world.

 

                   

Sorry to bother you (the movie)

This independent movie made by rapper Boots Riley from the rap group "The Coup". Was something  Alicia and I saw previews on it and couldn't wait to see.  This strange and controversial movie is a strong commentary on labor and social interactions in our society today. It takes a turn towards the end but we left the theater with a good feeling about this creative well acted movie that critics are really ranting about.​​​​​​​

Jay Rock vs. ASAP Rocky 2018

We close this week out with two very well developed releases by Jay Rock (Redemption) and ASAP Rocky (Testing).  So unique in their way that we left them for last so we would be able to spend the time to highlight and showcase their talent.  Very good listen.

   

Does the media get a good grade for the first half of the year?

The team gets together and discuss Trump creating Battlestar Gallactica/Star Trek force to protect space.  Yeah, thats what I said.  Also we talk about what the media is really doing this year compared to the previous year as well as Some of the decisions made by the supreme court.  We were a day late on the Kennedy resignation.  And we almost missed what went on during the G7 summit.  We alsp delve into the racist policies and discuss fear vs. racism.  A very interesting discussion.

Chloe X Halle new release - The Kids are Alright

The teen group Chloe X Halle from Grown-ish has their first studio release, "The kids are alright." We discuss the easy going production and the great harmonization between the young ladies.  Its surprising that these young ladies had their hands on so much of this album.  From writing, producing and singing all through this release.  It sounded like much more seasoned artists. The ladies created a very enjoyable album that we didn't expect. 

The Kids Are Alright is the debut studio album by American R&B duo Chloe x Halle. It was released on March 23, 2018, by Beyoncé's record label Parkwood Entertainment
