Monday Mar 11, 2019
We jump into Gunna’s 2nd major release on his own and actually coming out in competition with the OFFSET release the same day. We’ve seen him in so many other artist releases that we wondered how his solo would come off. With his success with Lil Baby, we had some skeptical views coming in.

If you followed my reviews, you know I love the work of Alfonso Cuaron. So this B&W period piece made in Mexico was released with critical acclaim. I wanted to take my time and watch it when I really had the mental time. What a very emotional and moving piece he has created for this Oscar nominated film about a domestic worker going through life in the 70's surrounded by class divisions as well as political uprising in Mexico.
Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón delivers a vivid, emotional portrait of a domestic worker's journey set against domestic and political turmoil in 1970s Mexico.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

So today we went to see the smash hit “Into the Spider-verse” with the kids. I thought it looked cool because I never got a chance to follow Miles Morales when he was released in comic book form. So when they said they would do a spiderman movie with Donald Glover. I was like Hooray its the Black/Hispanic spiderman. Well, that didn’t happen and then we find out its the MAU (Marvel Animated Universe) with multiple spider people (if you call a pig people?) Very different concept in which I never quite followed but actually knew a lot about.
Bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. When he meets Peter Parker, he soon realizes that there are many others who share his special, high-flying talents. Miles must now use his newfound skills to battle the evil Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other universes and pull different versions of Spider-Man into our world.

This was the movie Alicia and I were pretty excited about. Since I make her watch all the asian cinema movies and anime with me. We saw this as something amazing to highlight a culture that isn't recognized on that level in the United states. The Asian Black Panther with out the superhero outfit and the Marvel logo. What a very entertaining movie.

This movie wasn't actually on my list to see, to talk about or to even mention. But when we were hit with all of the critically acclaimed reviews as well as an Oakland story written and directed by African Americans and Hispanics. I had to give it a go. A very humorous, heartfelt drama that will hopefully make you think about the day to day struggles of anyone trying to remove stigmas from their identity. ANd struggle to try to do the right thing in a very hard environment.
Collin must make it through his final three days of probation for a chance at a new beginning in his Oakland, Calif., neighborhood. His bond with his volatile best friend soon gets tested when Collin sees a police officer shoot a suspect in the back during a chase through the streets. Sicario : Day of the Soldado
Wednesday Jul 25, 2018
Wednesday Jul 25, 2018
Alicia and I sit down with great anticipation to see the sequel to the critically acclaimed Sicario released 3 years ago from my favorite director Denis Villeneuve and the original screenplay writer by Taylor Sheridan. This new version is very intense and a bit more stereotyped and US policy driven but something we do discuss minus the negative portrayals of the Mexican people.
FBI agent Matt Graver calls on mysterious operative Alejandro Gillick when Mexican drug cartels start to smuggle terrorists across the U.S. border. The war escalates even further when Alejandro kidnaps a top kingpin's daughter to deliberately increase the tensions. When the young girl is seen as collateral damage, the two men will determine her fate as they question everything that they are fighting for

The team finishes up our discussion with immigration and how institutions have been hiding undertake guise of religion to take advantage of women as well as keep women in subordinate positions based on religious doctrine. We go back historically with immigration to bring in perspective of what our country has done in the past as well as what our needs are for today.
